From a donation call to a
call for accountability.
Inklusibo, or the Philippine Resource Center for Inclusive Development, started as a people-led donation drive for the fire victims of Sitio San Roque in 2019. Upon engaging with community members, we knew that our purpose is beyond donating basic necessities for the community.
2019
Save San Roque was established to respond to the community’s utmost concern—eviction. As they were being forced to flee from their settlements, the community and the organization joined forces to create a community development plan that aims to assert for on-site settlements in Sitio San Roque, Quezon City.
In December 2019, Sitio San Roque mobilized in front of the Quezon City Hall to submit the Community Development Plan. This landmark output became a way for nearby communities and advocates to amplify the discourse on the brutality of evictions in urban areas.
2020
As the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Save San Roque became a campaign powerhouse that amplified the urban poor’s struggle amidst the health crisis. We were able to raise discourse on the urban poor’s food, health, and welfare insecurity brought by the Duterte administration’s draconic and senseless anti-people policies.
Save San Roque was able to raise more than a million Pesos to help establish community-led initiatives and the bail for the 21 community members who were illegally incarcerated.
2021
As the lockdown continued, Save San Roque continued to ramp its efforts in campaigning for people’s rights. During this year, we were able to observe massive changes in the narratives regarding the urban poor. The support garnered by Save San Roque helped develop 29 community kitchens, at least 5 community gardens, and 1 community school.
During this year, Save San Roque began engaging with ambulant vendors, pedicab drivers, and other workers in the community.
2022 to 2023
After the Philippine national elections, Save San Roque regrouped to strategize how it wants to strengthen its impact. We initiated this because we understood that there are similarities among other informal sector communities in urban centers. From Save San Roque, we became Inklusibo.
